Kingston and Malden Scout and Guide Band Annual Report for 2006/07

2006 was another busy and memorable year for our Band.
The opportunity to perform in the auspicious surroundings of Windsor Castle and the “hallowed” Quadrangle at the National St. George’s Day Parade is something that we will all remember for a long time to come.
The Band performed superbly and all band members were great ambassadors for the District.

During the summer months the Band performed in the Malden Fortnight Parade and at the Long Ditton and Ewell Village Fairs.
Another highlight was the chance to play in the Bognor Regis bandstand on a sunny September Saturday right on the seafront!

In November the Band was once again very proud to be invited to participate in the Lord Mayor’s Show and a memorable day was enjoyed by all.

In December, we held our Annual Concert and Awards Evening. Using the famous “Oscars” format, previous award winners opened the “golden envelopes” and presented the annual awards for service, turnout and expertise to their fellow musicians.
The Band entertained an audience of 200 parents and supporters, including the Mayor, with a wide selection from our extensive repertoire.

In 2007 the Band is looking forward to a busy diary of events including several Centenary celebrations including a trip to Suffolk to play at their County Centenary celebrations in July, participation in the Closing Ceremony of the World Jamboree in August and the Royal Kingston Massed Band Concert in October.

The Band will also be performing at the Royal Marsden Summer Fair on 16th June and leading the Malden Fortnight Carnival Procession on 7th July.
The Band is hoping to travel to the Stroud Marching Band Contest in September.

Our Annual Concert and Awards Evening will be held on Saturday 1st December – although this date may change if we get the chance to perform at Live 07….

The Band continues to be recognised as an “A” classed Scout Association Band and has continued to recruit some new young faces and remain strong with 50+ members.
The Band is keen to welcome members of the Scout Groups based in the Kingston and Malden areas of the Royal Kingston District.

To finish, I would like to thank my assistant, Karl Nicholas and the Leaders and Instructors Team for making 2006 another successful year for the Band.
I also extend my thanks to our Fundraising Committee and parents for all their support.
